Thrift Store Flipping: What to Look For
Are you looking for a fun way to earn some extra money? Have you given any thought to flipping? I’m talking about thrift store flipping. Believe it or not, you can make some real money from items that you find while shopping at secondhand stores.
There are some items that are better than others for flipping and I am going to tell you what those are, but first, I will touch on a couple of tips to make your thrift store flipping trip more successful.
Tips to Make Your Thrift Store Flipping Even More Successful
Shop in High-End Areas– This is a reality of shopping at thrift stores (and yard sales). When you choose high end neighborhoods, you are going to find higher quality items for sale.
Pay Attention to Sale Days– Oftentimes, thrift stores will have specific days during the week or during the month that they will offer discounts.
Take Advantage of Technology– Put those smartphones to use! Before you buy, be sure and confirm that the item you are looking at is in fact as valuable as you think it is. You don’t want to end up with a worthless item taking up space in your home.
Okay, now that we got those tips out of the way, here are some items that you want to keep an eye out for when you are thrift store shopping with plans to flip.
Keep An Eye Out for These Items
Brand New (with tag) Items – It is surprisingly easy to find brand new with tag items when shopping at thrift stores. Assuming the price is good, it is almost always a good idea to buy these. Buyers are far more eager to purchase a brand new item then a used one, so this is almost always a good flipping choice.
Name Brand/Designer Jeans and Clothing – Designer brand jeans are a hot resale item. Take a look on Craigslist or on FB sale groups and do a search for Rock Revival, Miss Me or Silver Jeans and see what you come up with. Oftentimes, these brands will sell for $50+ Used If you can find these in a thrift store, you are likely to turn a nice profit.
Books and Textbooks Books are great for several reasons. They can often hold great value, but if you don’t feel like holding onto them, you can also trade them in! Use Amazon’s trade in tool, for example, and you can trade that book in for Amazon credits.
Classic Glassware and Cookware If you find glass cookware such as Pyrex, it’s a good idea to pick it up. In addition to Pyrex, buyers love old, high quality glassware and you will find it’s typically a fast flip. Keep an eye out for colored and decorated glass.
Sporting Goods With different sports happening year round, sporting gear gets to be a major expense for families, so many of them look toward buying used. If you are able to snag a good deal on baseball gloves, golf clubs, hockey equipment or other sporting goods, make sure you grab it!
There are other great items that you can potentially sell for profit. Just be sure to double check values so that you are are able to profit regardless of postage and seller fees (if you choose to sell online).
